MAC 901 Wire & Cable Release Agent

Description:

MAC-901 is a water dilutable dispersion of solid active ingredients (polytetrafluoroethylene/PTFE) designed to furnish a release, antistick/antitack coating for rubber. It is particularly useful as a replacement for mica, talc, stearates and other similar powders used as antistick agents.

Technical Data:

  • Color and appearance................Thick, white fluid dispersion
  • Dispersing medium...................Water
  • Specific gravity.........................1.0
  • Weight per gallon (lbs.)..............8.6

Application Method:

  • Optimum performance in using MAC-901 as an antiseptic coating for uncured rubber is achieved if the diluted product is applied to a hot rubber surface. If the surface is not hot enough, forced drying using hot air or heat lamps iOS suggested. Spraying, flow coating or dipping can be used to apply the diluted dispersion.
  • For open steam or pan curing of hose, complete drying may not be necessary but is preferred. Excessive coating levels should be avoided to prevent buildup on cure pans or rolls. Spraying or flow coating for uncured hose is recommended. Optimum dilution rate will vary depending on compound or process; evaluations should be run to find the lowest concentration giving the desired anti-stick properties.

Safety and Handling:

The Material Safety Data Sheet should be reviewed prior to use of MAC-901. Freezing of the product should be avoided, but if freezing occurs it is possible to restore product uniformity with mechanical agitation. The solid active ingredients in MAC-901 are essentially nontoxic orally but heating the solid above 550ºF may result in the possible formation of harmful fumes. Smoking should not be permitted while using the product and contamination of tobacco products with MAC-901 should be avoided.
