MAC 424A Water Based Rigid Mandrel Lubricant

Description:

Water based dispersion of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Provides a dry, colorless film with a very low coefficient of friction and excellent lubricating properties. For use as a mandrel lubricant for hose built on rigid mandrels. MAC-424A will provide excellent anti-stick properties and a low coefficient of friction, allowing for the easy removal of mandrel built hose products.

Application Method:

    MAC-424A mandrel lubricant is intended to be applied as received to clean, dry mandrel surfaces. Dilutions with water are possible depending upon the method of application and specific process characteristics of hose compound and construction. Start with a clean, dry mandrel. All previously used mandrel lubricants and any compound residue should be removed by an appropriate method. McLube Mold Cleaner may be used. Application of MAC-424A can be accomplished by spraying, wiping, dipping or flow coating a thin, even film over the entire mandrel surface. For previously uncoated mandrels, two coats should be applied. Once the mandrel has cycled through the system once, only one coating need be applied. A coating of MAC-424A will dry in 10 to 30 minutes, depending upon the application technique used. Spraying the product will speed up the drying time. External heat sources may be used to further facilitate drying. Although it is recommended that MAC-424A be dry prior to tubing, some manufacturers are tubing immediately with no adverse effects. The specific processing characteristics of the tube compound and the hose constructions used, will influence the need to dry the coating.

Safety and Handling:

    The Material Safety Data Sheet for MAC-424A should be reviewed prior to using the product. The solid active ingredients in MAC-424A are essentially nontoxic, but heating the above 550°F may result in the formation of potentially harmful substances. Smoking should not be permitted while using the products and contamination of tobacco products with MAC-424A should be avoided. Safety glasses and gloves are recommended when using this product. Freezing of the product should be avoided. If freezing occurs it is possible to restore product uniformity with mechanical agitation.
