McLube 1782 Silicone Rubber Mold Release Agent

McLube 1782 is a dispersion of solid active ingredients in water designed to furnish a release coating for rubber and plastics molding operations and to be used as an anti-stick/ anti-tack coating for uncured rubber. The product is recommended particularly for the molding of silicone rubber.

Technical Data:

  • Color and appearance..................Thick, white fluid dispersion
  • Dispersing medium......................Water
  • Specific gravity............................1.0
  • Weight per gallon (lbs.)................8.4

Application Method:

McLube 1782 is a concentrate that requires dilution prior to use. A suggested starting point for dilution is one part McLube to two parts water. It may be possible to achieve good release performance with even greater dilutions. Testing should be carried out to determine the optimum dilution rate both from a performance and an economic standpoint. Since the product and its various dilutions will settle on standing, mixing is required prior to use and periodically during use. The surface to be treated should be clean and dry, free of oily residues or other release coatings. McLube Mold Cleaner may be used. Application by brushing or wiping may be used but spraying is recommended. Optimum multiple-release performance is obtained by applying the diluted product to hot mold surfaces. Over-application should be avoided to prevent accumulation and running of the dispersion. Spraying should be carried out using as low a pressure as is practical. The ideal spray is a fine mist which eliminates bouncing the material off the surface, allows for good wetting, and minimizes over-application. For start-up, two coats are recommended, allowing the initial coat to dry before applying the second coat. In some molding operations, a base coat of a solvent McLube, followed by intermittent application of McLube 1782, will provide improved release performance and should result in cleaner molds.

Safety and Handling:

The Material Safety Data Sheet for McLube 1782 should be reviewed prior to use of the product. The solid active ingredients in McLube 1782 are essentially nontoxic but heating above 550°F may result in formation of potentially harmful substances. Smoking should not be permitted while using the product and contamination of tobacco products with McLube 1782 should be avoided. Safety glasses and gloves are recommended when using this product. Freezing of the product should be avoided, but if it does occur it is possible to restore product uniformity with mechanical agitation.
