Plastics Waste Processors (PWPs) compress and melt ship-generated plastic waste into sanitary disks suitable for long-term storage aboard naval vessels and larger, commercial ships. PWPs are used for clean plastic waste, food-containing waste, and other ship waste that cannot be processed in the normal solid waste stream. PWPs are used by the United States Navy, other national navies, and large commercial shipping fleets to achieve compliance with the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL 73/78). PWPs melt plastics and other materials in order to compress them into smaller structures that may be more easily stored aboard vessels with limited space. Plastics and other materials become tacky during the melting process and can adhere to the PWP during compression, making the sanitary disk more difficult to remove from the machine. McLube® has developed several water-based anti-stick coatings (or parting compounds) which will facilitate disk removal from the chamber and improve the overall efficiency of onboard waste management. Our products have also been used to prevent fouling of blenders during food waste processing.

Details & Benefits

Application

These products are applied to the door, ram, and chamber of PWPs and may be wiped, sprayed, or brushed. Our products have also been applied to food waste processors to prevent fouling and sticking during blending processes. Two coatings are recommended, especially after the chamber and other surfaces have been cleaned. These products will condition the applied surfaces over time and generally do not need to be applied before each disk after prolonged usage. A certain amount of the coating will transfer to the disk and prevent sticking during storage. These products may be applied to hot or ambient-temperature surfaces.

Benefits

  • Excellent anti-stick properties
  • Limit waste buildup inside the PWP over time
  • Significantly reduce cleaning effort and frequency
  • Extreme heat and pressure tolerances
  • Unaffected by food contaminants
  • Prevents rust and corrosion
  • Odorless and operator-friendly
  • Water-based and VOC-free
