Silicone Free Release Agents

Eliminate Silicone migration and part cleaning

Many parts require post-finishing operations in order to perform a specific function or meet end user specifications. Some post-finishing operations require uniform adhesion of paints or glues to the part surface which can be disrupted, or altogether prevented, by silicone release agents transferred to the part during molding. Some manufacturers are forced to add an extra cleaning step to their process in order to remove residual silicone oils from parts. These cleaning steps are often unreliable, costly, and time-consuming for molders and ultimately result in fewer finished parts per shift. Furthermore, migration of silicone oils from the molding area to paint shops or bonding stations can cause poorer quality parts or even shutdown plants indefinitely while ventilation systems and surfaces are decontaminated.

Silicone migration and transfer occurs when low-technology release agents containing silicone oils are used. More modern release agents containing silicone resins will not have the same migration issues when applied correctly. Silicone migration issues can often be solved by switching to a semi-permanent release agent which bonds to the mold surface and does not transfer to the part; however, certain materials are incompatible with silicones and a silicone-free release coating must be employed.

Our silicone-free release technology includes water-based, solvent-based, and aerosol options. If you are interested in switching to a silicone-free release agent, our product specialists can help with product selection, testing, and integration into existing processes.
