Solvent-Based Release Agents

Solvent-based Release Agents Can Save Valuable Production Time

One of the first questions that needs to be answered when choosing a release is whether your process requires a solvent-based release agent or water-based coating. While effective and generally less hazardous than solvent formulas, water-based release coatings have one major drawback that can significantly impact line efficiency – drying time. Extended drying times can reduce the number of parts produced per shift as operators wait for water-based coatings to dry and may even require purchase of additional equipment, such as air knives, fans, or heat lamps, to facilitate evaporation. If your process cannot accommodate the slower drying times of a water-based coating, or you want to improve the overall efficiency of your line, then consider testing a McLube® solvent-based release agent.

McLube® also offers solvent-water hybrid release coatings that reduce VOCs while retaining some of the benefits of solvent-based formulations. Our technical representatives and formulation chemists can help you determine if your process will benefit from a solvent-based release agent and assist with product selection, testing, and application method.

Benefits of Solvent-Based Mold Release

  • Fast-drying at any operating temperature
  • Tailored evaporation rates allow for precise coating characteristics
  • Superior wetting characteristics and release performance
  • Ideal for low/ ambient temperature applications and humid climates
  • Non-oily, non-dusting
  • Excellent material flow in-mold
  • Will not freeze during transportation or storage
