Moly greases and moly pastes were among the first products offered by McLube® after our founding in 1954. Our greases and pastes consist of a base compound (NLGI#2 grease or oil) fortified with varying concentrations of Molybdenum Disulfide (Moly) to suit application-specific requirements. The base compound acts as a primary lubricant and corrosion inhibitor while the Moly increases pressure and temperature tolerances by providing secondary lubrication after the base has dissipated or reached its dropping point. McLube® greases and pastes are ideally formulated to prevent wear, galling, and seizure of metal-metal, metal-rubber, and metal-polymer interactions. Moly Fortification Explained

Molybdenum Disulfide is an ideal lubricant because of its familiar crystalline structure which allows molecules to shear, creating an exceedingly low coefficient of friction between coated surfaces. Fine Moly particles will also work their way into microscopic pores on the substrate for long-lasting lubrication and conditioning of hard-to-reach areas.

The base compounds of our greases and pastes serve as primary lubricants as well as protect the application site from moisture, corrosion, and oxidization. Moly fortification significantly increases the temperature and pressure tolerances of our greases and pastes and also provides secondary lubrication as the base compound begins to dissipate or reaches its dropping point. Secondary lubrication extends the effective lifespan of our moly-fortified lubricants to reduce or eliminate the need for reapplication. Long-lasting lubrication is particularly beneficial in hard-to-reach areas or on parts that will only be coated once before assembly.

Grease vs. Paste

McLube® will recommend one of these products based on the degree of movement and load at the application site. Our Moly greases are ideal lubricants for fast-moving machine parts and dynamic interactions where high-solid pastes can cause jamming. Pastes form a thinner lubricating film than our greases and contain a much higher concentration of solids for anti-seize applications. Our anti-seize Moly pastes are ideal for low-friction (slow-moving) interactions and static parts under extreme load pressures. Common applications for our moly pastes include: screws, threaded connections, nuts, bolts, press fittings, mounts, joints, fasteners, valves, and slow-sliding surfaces as well as any application where a thinner coating is preferred.
